Gilman International Scholarship

The U.S. Department of State’s Benjamin A. Gilman International Scholarship Program enables students of limited financial means to study or intern abroad, providing them with skills critical to our national security and economic prosperity. The program encourages students to study and work in a diverse array of countries, areas and world regions, and languages.

Mandy is pursuing a Bachelor of Science in International Business and International Affairs. She has an interest in bridging and understanding cultural differences between countries, and hopes to pursue a career in international marketing. Mandy participated in the Disasters and Recovery Dialogue of Civilization in Japan and recently finished her study abroad at Queen Mary University of London. These experiences have helped shape her world view and fuel her desire to conduct research into global marketing practices. In her free time, she enjoys participating in the Northeastern Fashion Society and reading.

Saraïna is a third-year Public Health major with minors in International Affairs and Global Health. She is earning a Bachelor of Arts in Public Health and will pursue her master’s degree in Public Health through the PlusOne Program at Northeastern. She aims to tackle challenges to accessing healthcare services and formal education in low- and middle-income countries. Saraïna is interested in health research, and is currently on co-op in Kenya conducting a study on the efficacy of community health education about visceral leishmaniasis in promoting better health seeking behavior. She volunteers with the Crisis Text Line as a crisis counselor and drafts poems, with the hopes of publishing her work someday.
