Schwarzman Scholarship

Schwarzman Scholars take part in a one-year, fully funded master’s degree program at Tsinghua University in Beijing. The scholarship’s purpose is to build a global community of future leaders who will serve to deepen understanding between China and the rest of the world.

Su Zeynep Cizem

Khoury’24, Artificial Intelligence and Ethics

Su Cizem studied Philosophy at the University of California, Los Angeles and later completed graduate studies in AI and Ethics at Northeastern University London. She will obtain an MA in Global Affairs at Tsinghua University as a Schwarzman Scholar next year. Her work focuses on AI governance and the institutional and international challenges of managing high risk technologies. Su works as an Analyst at The Future Society and collaborates with the French Center for AI Safety related to AI red lines. While at Northeastern University London, she co-founded the AI and Ethics Society, where she served as Vice President, worked as a research assistant on an international relations and policy project, and served as Postgraduate Learning Officer in the Student Union. Outside her academic work, she enjoys cooking and traveling.

Deborah Madueke

SSH’20, Economics and Business Administration

Debbie is a current student at the University of Oxford and an alumna of Northeastern University, where she studied Economics and Finance with a minor in International Affairs. Her academic interests are shaped by a desire to understand how economies grow in practice, particularly in emerging markets and how development strategies can be designed to reflect local cultural, and institutional contexts. Following graduation, she became involved with the Women Who Empower Innovator community at Northeastern, which has been instrumental in her continued leadership development and sense of connection as she has navigated her post-undergraduate path. Debbie hopes to work with African governments and international institutions on development strategies centered on innovation and entrepreneurship. She is drawn to the Schwarzman Scholars program for its immersive engagement with China’s global leadership and its emphasis on cross-cultural understanding. Outside of her academic and professional work, Debbie is an avid reader with a deep love for history and culture and is excited about the opportunity to spend a year in Beijing.
